Injection molder and moldmaker GW Plastics (Bethel, VT) has purchased a controlling interest in WCH, a moldbuilder and injection molder headquartered in Guangdong, China.

WCH will be renamed GW Plastics Guangdong. It employs more than 100 workers and has a 40,000-sq-ft molding facility with cleanroom capability.

"GW Plastics Guangdong represents the latest step in our global growth strategy," said Ben Bouchard, GW Plastics'' VP of international marketing, in a prepared statement. "This operation, with its high degree of automation and low-cost labor, will provide a competitive advantage to our customers worldwide."

WCH was founded in 1997 and has been a key supplier to GW Plastics for molds used in processing of parts for the automotive, healthcare, and industrial markets. WCH has capacity to build more than 100 injection molds/yr. WCH management will stay with the firm.

In addition to GW Plastics Guangdong, GW Plastics recently opened a new facility in Querétaro, Mexico.
