HS Design, a full-service design and product development firm specializing in medical, healthcare, and consumer markets, announced that it is no longer the exclusive design and engineering service provider for MedPlast, a contract medical molder in the healthcare and pharmaceutical markets.

Two years ago, HS Design (Gladstone, NJ) and MedPlast (Tempe, AZ) entered into a formal agreement in which MedPlast obtained an equity position in HS Design, making MedPlast a minority shareholder.

With the conclusion of that agreement, HS Design in now a fully independent organization able to offer its many product design and development expertise to all manufacturers of custom molded plastic and elastomeric components.

In an interview with PlasticsToday, Tor Alden, partner in HS Design, commented that the company is still working with MedPlast, however there is no exclusive arrangement. "The past agreement prevented us from working with competitors of MedPlast, which posed limitations for us. There's now a certain amount of work coming through and based on where we were heading, and where MedPlast is heading, we are now able work more tightly with other plastics molding organizations," Alden said. "This decision to conclude our formal relationship with MedPlast presents an enormous opportunity for our future clients, and to our current client base."

Alden added that with no exclusive agreement, HS Design is now free to pursue "work with other leading molders around the globe" and to "broaden our base of molding and manufacturing partners."

HS Design is a source for produce development specializing in industrial design, engineering, user-interface, and prototype verification leading to manufacturing. The company currently has 15 employees, eight seats of SolidWorks and two seats of Pro/E. The company has also recently added FDM (Fuse Deposition Modeling) and animation to its suite of capabilities.
