TNP_Mikron_ac.gifA new versatile milling head on a line of high-speed machining centers is able to simultaneously swivel 135°. The new Mikron UCP 1350 also offers simultaneous four- or five-axis machining using a heavy-load rotary table. The unit builds on the traveling column design that is intended to ensure large, accurate movements with unrestricted access.Available with spindle speeds of 12,000, 15,000, or 24,000 rpm, the UCP 1350 features a swivel axis that can be indexed degree by degree for precision, while applying the high-torque ability of the spindle motor. Switchover from a vertical to a horizontal machining process can be completed in 1.7 seconds, allowing work on prismatic parts or other complex tools, with five-sided or five-axis, single-setup simultaneous machining. By using a linear motor for the rotary axis, multiaxis precision is achieved, and the UCP?s design also includes an 1100-mm-diameter rotary/tilt table built to handle loads up to 1500 kg with a rotational speed of 40 rpm. The unit comes standard with a 46-position tool magazine, and an optional 96-position tool magazine can be ordered. Automatic door interlocks provide safety, and the large opening offers easy access. For control, the UCP uses a Heidenhain TNC 430 control, which includes 3-D graphics, 3-D cutter compensation, and a 2-GB hard drive.
