Italian machinery makers rebound in 2010

Figures provided by Assocomaplast, the Italian trade association representing about 170 of the country's manufacturers of plastics and rubber machinery plus moldmakers, show the country's industry moving in a positive direction following the decidedly difficult 2009. Total exports were up 10% and the percentages were even higher for primary processing machinery.

Italian machinery makers rebound in 2010

The final 2010 balance for the Italian plastics and rubber processing and recycling machinery industry shows a firm recovery, even higher than Assocomaplast officials had expected in previous forecasts, with respect to 2009. All five of the main indicators for the sector reveal decidedly positive trends, recovering the losses suffered in 2009 compared with the record-year 2008.

Not all of the country's machinery manufacturers are members of the association. According to Assocomaplast, 2010 turnover posted by its own members recorded even higher growth (around +20%) than the national average.

Total exports for the sector increased by 10% compared with 2009, but those for primary processing machinery such as injection molding, extrusion and blowmolding machines, achieved an average increase of exports of 14%, with exports of extrusion lines growing at an even higher rate of 30%.

Germany ranks again at the top of the export destinations with a 10% increase compared to exports there in 2009, to a total of more than €310 million. China's plastics processing community was the second largest export target, jumping 55% to about €130 million.
