Milacron names new CEO

Dennis Smith is out as CEO of Milacron Holdings Inc. (Cincinnati, OH), with board of director member Tom Goeke named as his replacement. Melissa Wink, Milacron's director of corporate communications and external relations, told PlasticsToday she was not at liberty to discuss the circumstances of Smith's departure, but she said Smith, who headed the business since 2009, had been a "fantastic addition to Milacron, who led the company through some very tough times."

Milacron names new CEO

Goeke joined Milacron's board two and a half months ago, coming to the manufacturer of plastics processing equipment and industrial fluids from plastic packaging manufacturer Klöckner Pentaplast Group, where he served as CEO from July 2005 until May 2011. Wink said Milacron is not actively seeking a replacement for Goeke on its board of directors.

Goeke joined Klöckner Pentaplast in 1989, serving in a number of positions over his two-decades-plus there, including group COO and CEO of Klöckner Pentaplast of America Inc. prior to becoming Group CEO. Before joining Klöckner Pentaplast, he served at Hoechst Celanese Rigid Film Division, where he was a product manager for pharmaceutical and food packaging films. Goeke earned his M.B.A. from the College of William and Mary, and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Widener University.

Smith became Milacron's CEO in August 2009, replacing Dave Lawrence, who took over as CEO shortly before the company entered Ch. 11 in March of the same year. At that time, Lawrence became president of the injection and extrusion plastics machinery businesses and mold component supplier D-M-E.

Smith came to Milacron from Magnatrax Corp., which makes and markets custom-engineered metal building systems for the U.S. and Canadian non-residential construction markets. He joined Magnatrax in January 2004 as president and CEO there, just as it exited Chapter 11 bankruptcy, and led it to a strategic sale in August 2007 to Nucor, a manufacturer of various steel products including beams, wire, and mesh.
