Milacron's new ELEKTRON takes stage in Batavia

Milacron will showcase its new mid-size, all-electric machine line at its 2013 Open House in Batavia, OH (April 24-25). Initially available in tonnages of 400 and 500, the line will be supplemented by 600- and 725-ton models later this year.

The ELEKTRON line will round out Milacron's all-electric offerings, with the Roboshot line at the smaller end, and the PowerPak line addressing high-speed, high-tonnage applications. The ELEKTRON is said to be suitable for a wide range of end-use applications including medical, packaging, and automotive.

"Milacron already offers the broadest range in tonnage and performance in all-electric," said Eric Thompson, Milacron's Electric Platform product manager. "With its advantages for customers seeking a middle ground, the ELEKTRON is a perfect fit in our product portfolio."

The ELEKTRON is an adaptation of technology from smaller machines previously available in Europe and Asia. Among the benefits cited are A new, FEM-optimized clamp design with a greaseless part drop area and no hydraulic oil; a five-point toggle system that facilitates large mold opening strokes in a compact design; and a stroke accuracy of 0.01 mm. This is also Milacron's first U.S. machine to feature a new global guard format. Also included is the new 15-inch, touchscreen Endura Touch control combining the functionality of the Endura II control and the interface of the Mosaic control. The Endura Touch includes an onboard energy monitor, standard core pull software, and robot and pneumatic valve gate interfaces.
