Onsite conversion of nearly any standard electric or hydraulic molding machine into a MuCell microcellular foam press is now possible with a MuCell modular upgrade. According to Trexel, MuCell?s creator, the modular upgrade gives shops the technology without the capital expenditure of buying a new press.The package includes a MuCell injection unit and an SCF system controller for process control. It?s installed in conjunction with a 22:1 or 24:1 L/D screw, and it can be implemented onsite in one week without lengthening the machine base. The cost of the MuCell upgrade, with installation, begins at $30,000 and varies depending on screw size.
