Radio frequency (RF) welded thermoplastic products manufacturer Genesis Plastics Welding (Indianapolis, IN) has promoted Tom Ryder to president and CEO. Through his 20-year career, Ryder has held a variety of leadership positions, including COO and VP sales and marketing for Genesis. The company says that under his leadership, Genesis's sales revenues have grown eight times over since 2002. Ryder succeeds Randolph (Dolph) Smith, who retired after serving as Genesis president and CEO for 17 years.

Davis-Standard LLC's (D-S; Pawcatuck, CT) Extrusion Systems group has appointed Joseph Wnuk to manage its aftermarket business. Wnuk, who has been with D-S for almost 25 years in various positions, including sales engineer-aftermarket, senior sales engineer-elastomer, and product manager-elastomer, will assume this new responsibility in addition to his current role as VP-elastomer. D-S's aftermarket group offers service and parts for reconditioning, upgrading, and retrofitting any brand of extrusion equipment.
The Canadian Plastics Industry Assn. (CPIA) has named W. Amsler Equipment Inc.'s Werner Amsler as its recipient of the Plastics Innovator Award for 2009. The CPIA noted that in 2009 W. Amsler unveiled several innovative technologies, including its convertible PET stretch blow machine series with 3-, 4-, and 5-cavity machines that provide additional adjustable cavitation and auto widemouth preform loading up to 89 mm. In addition, its Modular Semi Auto Palletizer offers the ability to upgrade to fully automatic with the purchase of additional modules.
Materials supplier Teknor Apex (Pawtucket, RI) has filled two market-specialist positions. Ross Van Royen, who has been manager of the company’s TPE compounding plant in Henderson, KY, has been promoted to packaging market manager for the Thermoplastic Elastomer Division, a new position. He will continue to be based in Henderson. Richard Faulkner has joined Teknor Apex TPE division from Elmarco Inc. with 15 years experience in the polymer, nonwoven, and textile sectors and will be field market development representative for consumer products in North America.
Total Petrochemicals made a series of appointments on June 1, including naming Bernadette Spinoy as the senior VP base chemicals & health, safety and environment (HSE). Spinoy began her career within PetroFina in 1985, holding various positions before being appointed VP strategy and financial control for TotalFina in 2000 and subsequently given the same responsibility for petrochemicals activities of Atofina. Since 2001, she's been the VP marketing and sales for the Total's Base Chemicals Division. Spinoy succeeds Quentin de Borrekens, who is retiring. In addition, Olivier Greiner has joined the Total Petrochemicals' management committee as senior VP Styrenics, taking Spinoy's former position. Finally, Claude Lebeau, who recently joined the management committee as senior VP Research, Technology & Engineering, has also been made responsible for worldwide strategic planning.
Chemical Market Associates Inc. (CMAI; Houston) has announced that Matthew Thoelke will be the new Europe/Middle East Olefins & Derivatives Service Leader, effective July 1. The position means Thoelke will relocate to the CMAI Dusseldorf office later in the year. Thoelke has worked with CMAI's European and Middle East olefins and derivatives clients for 12 years. CMAI will recruit a new consultant to take over Thoelke's work in butadiene and derivatives, planning to base the individual from Germany.
The American Chemistry Council's (ACC; Washington, DC) Board of Directors approved the membership of five companies at its annual meeting, while also naming six other firms as Responsible Care Partner companies. At the meeting in Colorado Springs, CO, the ACC named ASHTA Chemicals Inc. (Ashtabula, OH), Miwon Commercial Co. (Dowington, PA), Modular Genetics Inc. (Cambridge, MA), United Initiators Inc. (Elyria, OH), and OPX Biotechnologies Inc (Boulder, CO) as member companies. The new Responsible Care Partner Companies are CH Robinson Worldwide (Chicago, IL), Expeditors International (Edison, NJ), Grupo Transmerquim S.A. (San Jose, Costa Rica) Martin Transport Inc. (Kilgore, TX), Tankstar USA (Milwaukee, WI), and Transportation Consultants Inc. (Harahan, LA).
Machinery distributor Single Source Technologies (SST; Mississauga, ON) has named Juergen Moeglich president of SST Canada. The distributor of machinery brands like Makino, Muratec, Cinetic Landis, and Metris said it was pleased to name Moeglich, who has 17 years experience with global distributors in the machine tool industry, including serving as director of the Canadian Machine Tool Dealer Assn. for more than 10 years.
ACS Group (New Berlin, WI) has promoted Jeff Jakubiak to join the operations team for its Material Handling department as the Material Handling/Electrical Production Supervisor. In that position, Jakubiak will be directing and supervising the Material Handling production lines. Jakubiak has more than 10 years of experience in the plastics industry, including the last two-and-a-half years with ACS Group.
