New Clamping Heater Band For Hot Runner Nozzles

0701pn-8clip.jpgOtto Männer GmbH (Bahlingen, Germany) has developed a new nozzle heater with a clamping mechanism said to address the issue of thermal contact tolerances between the heater band and the nozzle.

The clamping mechanism consists of three cams in the casing of the inner heater band. It is housed in a stainless steel shell that is polished on the outside.

The inside of the shell is contoured to match the cam arrangement. A hook-shaped key is used to twist both parts against each other. When twisted, the cams rise and tighten, creating tension between the heater band and the nozzle. This eliminates any tolerance difference between nozzle o.d. and heater band i.d.

To perform maintenance, loosen and tighten the heater band with the clamping key. Depending on the size, heater output is 200 to 600 watts (or higher if needed), at 230 v. Operating temperature range is up to 840 F.
