Leistritz (Allendale, NJ) will exhibit the latest developments in twin screw extrusion technology at booth W6571 during NPE2015 in Orlando, FL, in March. Among the equipment on display is the ZSE-18 twin screw extruder designed for use in medical, pharmaceutical, and related manufacturing environments that operate according to Good Manufacturing Practices.

Leistritz extruderStainless-steel construction is high among the features of the ZSE-18: Segmented stainless-steel screws are assembled on high-torque splined shafts, and stainless-steel barrels with a tie-rod assembly system are designed for rapid changeovers. The base frame is also stainless steel.

A sealed brushless AC servomotor is quieter than standard AC motors and achieves 1000:1 turndown at a speed accuracy of 0.01%.

The gearbox positioning plate allows it to accommodate various length/diameter ratios and has a cantilevered front end to enable the use of gear pumps and other front-end devices.

The company also will present a ZSE-90 MAXX co-rotating intermeshing twin screw extruder designed to process highly filled polymer compounds and engineering resins. The extruder comes with a water-cooled main motor that is smaller and quieter than standard AC motors and is completely sealed to eliminate powder contamination concerns.

Finally, the ZSE-27 MAXX direct-to-sheet system will interest attendees who routinely integrate systems from multiple suppliers with different technologies. The extruder features distributive processing control, whereby subprocesses are controlled by a discrete programmable logic controller (PLC), and a master PLC is used to manage the overall system and consolidate recipes and data acquisition. The ZSE-27 facilitates rapid in-line compounding and production of prototype sheet samples.

NPE2015 comes to the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL, from March 23 to 27.
