PolyOne Corp. (Cleveland, OH) has opened a wholly owned business development office in Seoul, South Korea in response to the "growth of consumer product design and manufacturing companies, as well as polymer processors, in the Asia-Pacific region," according to Willie Chien, president of Asia operations for the resin distributor and compounder. Tim Choi will act as managing director for the new entity, PolyOne Korea Ltd., which will focus on gaining specifications with South Korean original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and importing PolyOne's specialty compounds for use by South Korean polymer processors.
PolyOne spokesperson, Amanda Marko, said at this point Choi will be the lone employee in the office. The company had employed local sales agents in the past, according to Marko, who described the company's sales and customer base in the country as "modest." That said, PolyOne sees "tremendous growth opportunity" in South Korea, and will specifically target specialty specifications in the wire/cable, electronics, transportation, and biopolymer markets, Marko said.
Kurt Schuering, VP, key account management, will oversee the market development operations of PolyOne Korea Ltd. Electronics and automotive are among the key markets for South Korea, with global brands like Samsung, LG, Hyundai, and Kia, among others. PolyOne now has 14 sales offices, manufacturing facilities, and laboratories throughout the Asia-Pacific region, including sites in China, Japan, India, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. —[email protected]
