Downsizing is largely a negative word when associated with companies and businesses. But when it comes to technology, downsizing can provide big benefits.

That’s what the machine vision solution specialists of Odyssey Scientific did in engineering a new downsized quality inspection machine on bottle blow-molding lines for preforms.

The company’s John Wieczorek highlighted the features and benefits in this video courtesy of Bob Sperber, managing editor of sister publication Packaging Digest. The interview was conducted in early November during Pack Expo in Chicago. Wieczorek explains that, while most preform manufacturers have in-house metrology labs, checking the preforms' dimensional accuracy and thread specifications on the production floor offers cost-saving and waste-reducing advantages.

Note that the drill in the video is used to show scale.
