New Controllers For Temperature And Hot Runners

pn1-799.jpgAthena Controls has introduced two new products, Series C temperature controllers and Series RMB microprocessor-based PID hot runner temperature controllers. Pricing information for both products is available from the manufacturer.  Use our Key Contact Directory.

Temperature controller The Series C is a family of panel-mounted, universal-input tem- perature controllers available in four DIN sizes: 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and 1/32. Each is microprocessor controlled and features autotuning as well as PID functionality to provide closed-loop, single-channel temperature control.

Units accept signal inputs from J, K, T, N, R, S, B, C, E, NNM and Platinel II thermocouples, as well as two- or three-wire RTDs and linear sources. Standard features include  large LEDs capable of decimal readouts of 0.1 deg, dual output/dual alarm, field-configurable process and deviation alarms and bumpless auto/ manual transfer.

On 1/16-DIN and larger models, other features are available, including eight- level ramp/ soak control and options such as re-mote communications in RS-232, RS-485, SPI and Engel/ Arbug protocols, re-mote analog setpoint function, auxiliary output, transducer excitation and multi-function contact/digital input.

For models with digital communications, the builder's Multi-Comm software allows remote monitoring and control of up to 256 Series C controllers at one time.

This software features login/logout operator security with password protection and multiple security levels, automatic controller detection and user-defined, 10-character controller IDs. Two additional alarms are enabled for each controller, independent of the controller's built-in alarms.

A real-time graphing and datalogging feature allows for statistical process control and export of data to a spreadsheet program for analysis.

PN 2-7/99Hot runner control The Series RMB microprocessor-based PID hot runner temperature controller incorporates a newly designed operator keyboard and two large LEDs for indication of setpoint, process temperature and diagnostics. Three discrete LEDs illuminate to display heat- current, alarm and manual mode.

The new hot runner controller accepts input from type J or K thermocouples and offers built-in loop break, triac failure and ground-fault protection, as well as autotuning with adjustable proportional band and rate.

They are compatible with existing mainframes and include the manufacturer's CompuStep Bakeout function that dries out heaters to prevent moisture formation in the mold cavity during start-up.

Other features include bumpless auto/manual transfer, jumper-selectable self-start mode and present deviation alarms at 30 F. A built-in current monitor displays average current to the load. Multiple security levels restrict access to specific controller functions. The controllers are CE-compliant.
