Portable Chillers

Offer More Features

pn9-499.jpgThe new Mid-Range Series (5 to 15 tons) of portable chillers are said to offer standard features not often found on chillers in this size range. These include scroll compressors on most models; stainless steel, brazed plate chiller vessels; freeze-up control integrated with the controller; high and low refrigerant pressure controls; compressor and pump overload protection; liquid line filter drier with isolation valve and stainless steel holding tank.

Three styles are available: air-cooled,  water-cooled and remote air-cooled. All include a door-mounted SC5 micropro-cessor-based PID controller, which has a two-line, full-character display with touch-button con-trols. The alarm package has high temperature, low-level alarms with audio and optional visual indicators.

The design of these chillers is said to allow for 'no-tools' access to major components, including the electrical panel, for easy maintenance. They also come with heavy-duty castors; mounting legs are optional. Other options include dual pumps, disconnects and 'Type 2 coordination.'

In most electrical panels the components are selected for a specific task which sizes them to a minimum to save money. With Type 2 coordination, the manufacturer sizes the components for their task but also in coordination with other components in the panel that require over-sizing.

Although this increases the cost of the components and the engineering time for selection, the manufacturer says the customer gets better coordinated panel that is better protected against damage from spikes and shorts, etc. The company says it has internally automated this selection process so that little cost is passed to the customer.
