Release liner converter doubles capacity, opens new facilityRelease liner converter doubles capacity, opens new facility

In a move that bucks the "hunker-down" response to economic hard times, and also vaults it to among market leaders in its field, film converter MPI Release has opened a new facility in Indiana and outfitted it with a large new thermal coating line.

MPI Release (Winchester, MA) says its new line, an 87-inch-wide silicone thermal coater made by Polytype, will be housed in the firm’s new facility in Greenfield, IN. As a result of the expanded capacity, the converter says it has doubled its capacity and positioned itself as able to produce the widest and most diverse range of release-coated thermoplastic films (.00025-inch/6.4-µm thick and up) and paper, both with and without extrusion coatings, in widths up to 87 inches/2210 mm. Release films are supplied with substrates of PVC, PP, HDPE, LDPE, and PET, as well as on various paper grades.

The new line is able to apply silicone to two sides of a web in a single pass; the coater also prints or treats in-line as well as applies controlled re-moisturizing of paper substrates. In MPI’s Winchester, MA, facility it already has both ultraviolet [UV] and electron-beam [EB] coating lines, in widths up to 82 inches.

In a statement, MPI Release’s President, Ed Alois, said, “Our corporate philosophy is that bigness is not greatness. Our ongoing goal is to build on MPI’S reputation as a hands-on supplier, with personalized responsiveness to customers of any size, quick turn-around of sample requests and quotations, and on-time shipments of consistent quality.”
