SJ Series low-speed, high-torque, screenless granulators are well-suited for beside-the-press granulation of hard, brittle plastics such as styrenes, acrylics, and glass-fiber-reinforced, mineral- and talc-filled engineering grade resins. The granulators are available in three cutting-chamber sizes?approximately 9 by 9 inches, 9 by 14 inches, and 9 by 18 inches?allowing processors to size the units to their specific application. The cutting knives are trapezoidal in shape and helically aligned on the rotor. Rotor knives operate at 27 rpm for uniform particle size and little dust. The screenless technology ensures no longs are present in the regrind. Each roller cutter can be removed for knife sharpening and has its own dedicated comb to set the gap for the whole roller. The hardened, high-alloyed two-sided steel combs and counter combs can be reversed to double their life. An optional automatic reversing system maximizes cutting performance under high load conditions. The hopper and cutting chamber can be opened separately for knife roller changes and easy cleaning. The unit is equipped with two limit switches, one for the hopper and one for the bin. The gear box cabinet is soundproofed, as is the steel hopper which has a polycarbonate window and a large top-feed opening that can be mounted to allow left or right side access. The granulator can be positioned beside the press for feeding by robot, conveyor, or hand. An optional hopper manufactured of polycarbonate is available to allow the operator an unobstructed view (shown above) of the entire feed chute and cutting chamber.
