Combining manufacturers of thermoformable thermoplastic sheet, Sekisui America Corp. (Mt. Laurel, NJ) has acquired Allen Extruders Inc. (Holland, MI), with the intent to combine its sheet expertise with that of its portfolio company Kleerdex Co. LLC (Bloomsburg, PA). Kleerdex is known for its Kydex thermoplastic sheet, while Allen, which was founded in 1970, markets its proprietary Alextra high-gloss durable sheet. The companies will continue to operate independently, but according to Kleerdex President Jim Medalie, in a release, “This acquisition enables Allen Extruders and Kleerdex to combine their expertise, technology, and other resources to generate original products and solutions.”

Allen offers acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), high-impact polystyrene (HIPS), and weatherable sheet, including polycarbonate (PC), in widths up to 100 inches and thicknesses ranging from 0.050 to 0.500 inch. The company can also create two- to three-layer coextruded sheet and specialty and decorative film coatings.

Kleerdex offers its Kydex sheet in thicknesses ranging from 0.022 to 0.500 inch, with the standard sheet measuring 96 by 48 inches and custom offerings of 46 and 60 inches. The alloy material reportedly offers flame and chemical resistance, as well as enhanced strength.—[email protected]
