That is the prediction from PakIntell LLC (West Chester, PA), a packaging market research firm, in its new study Shrink Label Markets, Materials, and Application Technology (see also the article in June 2005 issue of MPW).

According to PakIntell, shrink labels are the fastest growing form of package labeling with demand growth of nearly 20% per annum. The shrink label market will utilize 53.5 million lb of film in 2005 and be applied to approximately nine billion units or containers, says the study.

PakIntell predicts a change as roll-on, shrink-on (ROSO) labels will gain market share from standard shrink sleeves, though both will develop at high demand rates.

The study includes a customizable Excel worksheet cost model that helps converters estimate when comparing the sleeve and ROSO formats. The study is authored by Gary Duncan, who holds 40 patents on packaging films and concepts.
