Providing the ability to spin weld large parts up to 30 inches in diameter, the SW 950 Spin Welder rounds out a line of secondary assembly equipment, joining heatstaking, and ultrasonic, vibration, and hot-plate welding. Spin welding joins plastic components that are spherical or cylindrical in shape by using frictional heat that's generated at the mating surface by spinning one part above a fixed part. Functional with a broad range of thermoplastic resins, the technology can create hermetic seals.

The SW 950 uses servopower for the spin and z axes to create greater precision. A machine/operator interface handles all machine parameter adjustments, and part orientation can be controlled to ±1 degree over a 30-inch part. Spin-axis speeds are adjustable in 1-rpm increments up to 3000 rpm. The servodrive keeps the spin axis constant regardless of load, and the vertical feed rate is adjustable in .001-inch increments. By varying the upper tool's home position, operators can lower the starting point and decrease cycle time. Plastic Assembly Systems, Milford, CT, 866-882-1701; www.heatstaking.com
