A streamlined version of a traditional static mixer is for PVC. Called Polyguard, the mixer improves thermal mixing and homogenizes melt, minimizes flow lines, and improves color distribution and pipe properties. The mixer can also mix different elastomers. It has short bars that are rounded on one side to facilitate self-cleaning and give short residence times, plus prevent resin hangup. Pressure drop before the die is less than 5%.

The first Polyguard static mixer was built for a 40-mm extruder and has been tested in a pipe and sheet application in Germany.
