Tennessee ropes in auto investment
Japan's Sekisui Plastics (Osaka) became the third company in the space of two days to announce a major investment in automotive plastic components in the state of Tennessee when it announced plans to invest $3 million in a second manufacturing facility for foam plastics, primarily used in automotive safety components, in Mount Pleasant on August 31.

Tier I molder ABC plans to invest $5 million at its Gallatin Plant to expand production of plastic fuel tank systems and urea systems for automotive and non-automotive OEMs. The company will create 114 new jobs in the process.
ABC Group Fuel System is a subsidiary of ABC Group of Companies, which operates three facilities in Gallatin - ABC Technologies, ABC Group Fuel Systems and Salga Plastics. The company currently manufactures some 1.1 million multi-layer plastic fuel tank assemblies each year.
"This investment represents the eighth expansion by ABC Group of Companies in Middle Tennessee," Marius Sipos, Vice President, Fuel Systems of ABC Fuel Systems, said. "Our long history in the area is a clear result of the support we've received from the state and the citizens of Tennessee."
Earlier this year, ABC Group announced an agreement with Ningbo Inoac Huaxiang Automobile Products to form the joint venture Ningbo ABC Inoac Huaxiang Co. (AIH) based in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. The joint venture will mold interior, exterior and engine support products. ABC Group also plans to introduce its innovative blow and injection molding and system-based manufacturing expertise into AIH.
For its part, NYX is planning a $23 million manufacturing facility to produce injection molded plastic components for a wide variety of automotive manufacturers beginning in early 2012, creating 400 jobs over a five-year period. The company has signed a 10-year lease for the 175,000-square-foot Fisher building in Linden, TN, from the Perry County Industrial Development Board.
