Torque-limiting safety couplings

46.jpgTorque-limiting safety couplings Rimtec Corp. introduced itsDMK-L line of torque-limiting safety couplings for electric injection molding machines. They are designed to protect against damage caused by frequent disengagements.

Two types are available, mechanical or magnetic, in torque ranges from 266 lb-in. to 14,160 lb-in. All mechanical couplings fit bore sizes from 1/2 to 3-1/2 in.

The mechanical units are designed for machines that require protection against crashes while maintaining accurate positioning. The design incorporates an integral Belleville spring with precision roller guides for a backlash-free transmission of torque and protection from ultra-short surges in speed.

The magnetic units are better suited to machine applications with a high frequency of engagement/disengagement and where positioning accuracy is less critical. Torque is transmitted by a magnetic field, with no physical contact or wearing between coupling components. This is said to result in a smooth, constant torque that protects molds from damage.

Both types are available in stainless steel and/or miniature versions, either with collet-type or taper lock clamping styles.
