53.jpgUltrasonic lateral actuator-Unit uses a shear motion that allows for assembly of delicate parts that are not weldable with normal plunge systems. To demonstrate the unit at NPE, Branson was welding a micro speaker.
Other applications include delicate and precision electronics parts, contacts, coils and semiconductors. It is also said to be an effective way to join molded components that have thin wall sections or materials that have high melting points (such as polyphenylene sulfide and liquid crystal polymer). The process can also provide a hermetic seal. The Lateral Actuator is available in frequencies of 20, 30 and 40 kHz.
