KraussMaffei's second assembly hall at its Slovakian plant was officially commissioned, doubling the site's capacity just two years after it opened and a full quarter before the expansion was scheduled to be commissioned. The Sucany plant's production area was expanded around 13,000 sq m from its previous 6600 sq m. At this time, the plant mostly undertakes assembly of machines, but a KraussMaffei spokesperson told PlasticsToday that the eventual goal is for full manufacturing at the site.

The facility will now produce EX series injection molding machines, linear robots, reaction process machines and systems, and component trimming machines. Output will be delivered globally, according to the KraussMaffei spokesperson. When the plant opened in 2010, it built switch cabinets, assembled AX series injection molding machines, and produced additional parts for plastics processing machinery.

At the time, the 6600-sq-m production area featured CNC machining and assembly of AX series injection molding machines up to 350 tonnes. Back then, the plant employed 120 people, while it has as staff of approximately 200 today.

ember 2011, just over one year from its opening, indicating the strong growth rates in the region. According to the Association of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry of the Slovak Republic the number of plastic product enterprises grew from 98 in the second quarter of 2011 to 165 in the second quarter of 2012. Over that same time period, the number of rubber and plastic products businesses grew from 116 to 184.

KraussMaffei's EX series of injection molding machines are all-electric and extend from 50 to 240 tonnes of clamp pressure. The AX series machines are also all-electric but cover a clamp force range from 50 to 350 tonnes and utilize a 5-point double toggle, where the EX uses what the company calls its Z toggle design.
