Venture Gives Atofina Commodities Capacity In Asia

Atofina, Paris, has formed a 50/50 joint venture with Samsung General Chemical, Seoul, Korea. It adds an Asian production base to Atofina’s current ones in Europe and North America.

Atofina will produce a range of base petrochemicals and polyolefins at the Samsung site in Daesam, Korea, which has capacities of 670,000 tonnes/yr for polyethylene and polypropylene, 650,000 tonnes/yr for ethylene, and 670,000 tonnes/yr for styrene.

Samsung hopes to bolster its competitiveness by achieving a sounder financial structure and more active cross-marketing.
