PolyOne is expanding capacity for Geon VBX Series vinyl powder solutions. Both the China and Europe facilities will reach full-scale production in Q3 of 2013.

The new capacity supports the continued globalization of automotive OEMs and their suppliers. Robert Rosenau, president, PolyOne Performance Products and Solutions, stated, "This investment is consistent with the automotive industry's desire to work with global suppliers able to offer local production capability. It is also consistent with the PolyOne strategy to offer specialized polymer and service solutions globally. We are optimistic about the prospects for growth in the automotive segment, and are developing a pipeline of innovations targeting this important industry."

The move expands Geon VBX Series supply capabilities beyond an existing powder production plant in North Baltimore, OH. PolyOne has been supplying specialty vinyl powder solutions to the automotive industry for soft-touch interior components such as instrument and door panels for over 25 years.

These customized slush-molding powders from PolyOne reportedly help automotive OEMs and Tier One suppliers increase productivity, reduce scrap and address the need for reduced-weight automotive interiors. Among the advantages cited for Geon VBX Series technologies over alternative materials are safe and effective airbag deployment in extreme temperatures, excellent aging performance for long-term durability and aesthetics, improved air quality and reduced fogging, and superior haptics and aesthetics for a luxury look and feel.
