Polypropylene (PP) contract prices were flat in Europe last week, according to Polymerupdate. In spite of a gain in March contract prices over February, PP last week was steady at €810/tonne FD Northwest Europe while PP copolymer prices were assessed at €850/tonne FD Northwest Europe. In the spot market, homopolymer prices were assessed at €700/tonne FD Northwest Europe, while copolymer fetched €750/tonne FD Northwest Europe. Producers are aiming for an increase, targeting prices of €820 to €830/tonne FD Northwest Europe for homopolymer grades.
Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) contract and spot prices were also flat last week at €900/tonne FD Northwest Europe and €790/tonne FD Northwest Europe, respectively. A processor contacted by Polymerupdate said it’s undertaking trials of LLDPE from the Middle East, calling the materials “competitively priced” and adding they will likely keep domestic European prices in check going forward.
Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) prices finished flat in Europe last week, with contract prices for general-purpose LDPE at €900/tonne FD Northwest Europe, while spot LDPE prices were assessed at €840/tonne FD Northwest Europe.
Polystyrene (PS) contract prices rose to €895/tonne FD Northwest Europe for general-purpose grades, while high-impact contract prices were assessed at €940/tonne FD Northwest Europe. General-purpose contract prices also rose last week, hitting €895/tonne FD Northwest Europe. HIPS contract prices were reported at €940/tonne FD Northwest Europe mark. In the spot market, PS demand was subdued, with general-purpose and high-impact grades settling at €750/tonne and €795/tonne FD Northwest Europe, respectively.
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) general-purpose and natural-grade contract prices reached €1170/tonne to €1180/tonne FD Northwest Europe. In the spot market, prices were reported at €1020/tonne to €1030/tonne FD Northwest Europe. Poor regional weather is believed to have impacted construction activity, and therefore, ABS demand.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) contract prices ended flat in Europe last week, with suspension-grade contracts finishing at €715/tonne FD Northwest Europe. Several PVC producers that had targeted hikes of €50/tonne and above for the month of March relented to market pressures. In the spot market, PVC prices were assessed last week at €530 to €560/tonne FD Northwest Europe. —[email protected]
