China’s State Planning Commission has approved a pvc project proposed by LG Chem, Seoul, Korea, and Fujian Petrochemical, Quanzhou, China, centering on a 450,000-tonne/yr plant that would become part of the Fujian petrochemical project between Fujian Petrochemical, ExxonMobil Chemical, and Saudi Aramco, in Quanzhou.

The plant will be LG Chem’s second in China, where 9%/yr pvc demand growth is expected through 2020. Tianjin LG Dagu Chemical Co., Dagu, China, an LG joint venture with Dagu Chemical Co., operates a 240,000-tonne/yr plant. Another 100,000 tonnes/yr of capacity will be added there.

Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Nan Ya Plastics, in Kaohsiung, is planning a 2700-tonne/mo biaxially-oriented polypropylene plant in Dong Nai, Vietnam.
