Radioactive steel from Asia

Article-Radioactive steel from Asia

During a recent MPW visit to his facility, Renatto Moretto, founder and president of auxiliary equipment manufacturer Moretto Plastics Automation(Massanzago, Italy; www.moretto.com), shared a cautionary tale. He told us that his company acquired a Geiger counter after a friend of his, also owner of a manufacturing company, bought 3-4 tonnes of steel from Asia that he says turned out to be radioactive. Moretto's company now checks each incoming order before using it.

We've asked a few other machinery manufacturers if they've heard of any such problems with steel orders, but none had, so it could well be (and let's all hope!) this was just an isolated incident.
