Reichhold opens facility in India

The world’s largest manufacturer of unsaturated polyester resins (UPR), Reichhold (Research Triangle Park, NC), has added a new site to its line-up. The 13,200-tonne/yr facility in Ranjangaon, Pune, India will supply UPR to processors of wind turbines, glass-reinforced pipe (GRP), and other applications.

The new site brings to 19 the number of manufacturing facility run by Reichhold; it also has four technology centers.

Earlier this year the company introduced its Polylite 31325-00, a non-promoted, medium-reactive, low-viscosity unsaturated polyester resin derived in part (25%) from soybean oil. The material is a general-purpose molding resin for sheet molding compound (SMC), bulk molding compound (BMC), and pultrusion applications. The soy-based resin is said to yield laminates with mechanical properties/performance that are similar to general-purpose SMC, BMC, and pultrusion resins. —[email protected]
