A new resulfurized H-13 steel, called DCF, is a durable, heat-resistant, and easily machinable mold steel that stands up against highly abrasive materials. It is particularly suitable for molding thermoplastic and thermoset grades in applications where polishability is not a primary concern. It is also suitable for tooling components such as tool holders, ejector core pins, and inserts where high hardness and high-temperature strength are needed.

DCF is supplied in the prehardened condition so it reduces the delay and expense associated with a postmachining heat treatment and eliminates the associated risk of distortion and cracking. Tests conducted by the manufacturer have reportedly shown that the steel retains its strength at temperatures as high as 800F. The steel is forged from upset ingots using Finkl?s wide-die techniques. This reportedly ensures consolidated centers and fine grain structure, providing for consistent isotropic properties throughout. Price was not provided.
