Rubber TPE now in medical grades

Advanced Elastomer Systems has developed a new medical grade within its Santoprene Rubber 8000 series that reportedly is USP Class VI compliant and easy to process. Potential medical applications include closures, sealing gaskets, syringe plunge tips, and more. They are most suitable for injection molded parts with long flow lengths or thin sections. These medical grades are latex-free and zinc-free. They are nonhygroscopic, meaning they do not absorb moisture, so they do not have to be dried before processing, like some TPEs that may require 2 to 3 hours of drying prior to processing. Santoprene Rubber 8000 series medical grades are easily colorable and are available in durometers ranging from 35 Shore A, one of the softest fully vulcanized medical grade TPEs available ($3.13/lb for truckload quantities) to 90 Shore A ($2.88/lb, truckload).
