Sensor allows accurate positioning of hydraulic and pneumatic sensors

Machines now have a lower-cost alternative to noncontact position feedback devices used for hydraulic and pneumatic actuators. The TDP-100 in-cylinder position sensor offers nearly infinite resolution and wear-resistant hybrid-track technology to create a flexible application. The wire-bound element reportedly provides maximum sensor life and reliability, with an absolute analog output of .15 percent linearity.

By mounting within cylinders, the TDP-100 avoids the potential damage associated with external locations, and it can withstand pressures within the cylinder of up to 7200 psi or 500 bar. The sensor can provide more than 50 million cycles at stroke lengths of 25 mm at speeds of 250 mm/sec. The sensor is available in travels of 25 to 200 mm in 5-mm increments, or 210 to 1100 mm in 10-mm increments for use on a wide variety of actuator sizes. It can operate in temperatures ranging from ?30 to 100C. The sensors come in internal- and external-flange versions, allowing the flange to be completely encapsulated within the cylinder bulkhead. Pricing starts at $275.
