Silgan captures Cousins-Currie

Rigid-packaging supplier Silgan Holdings Inc. (Stamford, CT) has acquired large-ware blowmolder Cousins-Currie Ltd. (Woodbridge, ON) for Canadian $48.3 million. Silgan added the firm to build on its Canadian business, which includes four operations, two each in Ontario and Quebec. Cousins-Currie had $48.4 million in 2005 sales.

Silgan has acquired 21 businesses since its inception in 1987, giving it a presence in metal, plastic, and composite containers and closures. Cousins-Currie has two manufacturing locations near Toronto, where it specializes in custom extrusion-blowmolded containers for the agricultural, institutional food, and industrial markets, with customers in the U.S. and Canada.

Overall, Silgan had pro forma net sales of $2.8 billion in 2005, operating 66 facilities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. In third-quarter sales, Silgan reported net sales of $856.4 million, up 7.4% from 2004.
