Simona America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Simona AG based in Kirn, Germany, has acquired Laminations Inc., with headquarters and operations in Archbald, PA.Laminations is a U.S. manufacturer of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and fluoropolymer sheet products and lining laminates. Simona America is a producer of polyolefins and PVC sheet and rod products, and supplies the North American market primarily through its authorized distributor network.

Simona America acquires Laminations Inc.

According to Michael Schmitz, president of Simona America, the acquisition provides a broader range of products, production methods and more production capacity to capitalize on the potential for growth in the North American market. Wolfgang Moyses, CEO of Simona Group, states: "This acquisition is part of the global strategy adopted by the Simona Group to penetrate growth industries and establish significant positions for its plastics in all international regions."

Laminations' capabilities in HDPE reportedly include unique color technologies and an extensive product range developed for applications in outdoor recreational structures, signage, furniture and the marine industry. Its high performance products, marketed under the "Lamcorr" brand, include flame-inhibiting PP, PVDF, PFA, E-CTFE and a proprietary grade of PVC, and are used widely in applications for semiconductor and chemical processing equipment.

Simona says these products complement the company's product portfolio, which includes sheets made of PVC Type I, PVC VS I, polypropylene homopolymer and copolymer as well as solid rods. The company touts that this combined product lines and capabilities position the company as a "market leader for semi-finished plastic products in the semiconductor and chemical process industries."

Michael Lynch, president and CEO of Laminations, will manage the new Simona America entity as CEO. "This is an exciting step for all of us," he stated. "The combination of products, market expertise and technologies strengthens our established position in the semiconductor and chemical processing industries. It also brings more value, service efficiency and growth potential to the network of distributors who support our product lines throughout North America."
