Software offers networking upgrades

Using TwinCAT software from Beckhoff Automation (Burnsville, MN) allows users to turn any compatible PC into a real-time control with a multiple PLC system, NC axis control, and operating station. Improvements in version 2.10 also offer enhanced features for networking industrial devices, improved remote programming, and support for real-time Ethernet technology. Different update rates can be set up for different drives, so while one drive may need a new torque command issued every 50 ms with others adjusting every 2 ms, TwinCAT will only run control loops as often as necessary. TwinCAT 2.10 can synchronize multiple deterministic networks together and also provides programming of remote target systems for easier programming of Beckhoff BC, BX, CX, and PC controls. Communication can be set up via TCP/IP, HTTP, and serial connections.?KH
