SPE calls for nominations for “Plastics for Life” global parts competition

The Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) announced its second annual "Plastics for Life" global parts competition and issued a call for part nominations. The competition is open to parts that have previously won a category award or competition during the past year in an SPE TOPCON (topical conference) or Minicon (mini-conference). Winners, to be selected by a panel of industry experts and media representatives, will be announced in a special press conference to be held on March 23, 2015 during the SPE Annual Technical Conference (ANTEC Orlando 2015) in Orlando, FL.

Winners will be chosen in four categories: Protecting Life (preservation, safety, containment, protection); Quality of Life (mobility, communication, luxury/comfort, recreation, entertainment); Improving Life (education, energy, opportunity, health); and Sustaining Life (environmental, conservation, sustainability, recycling, reduction). In addition, there will be a grand award and a people's choice award.

"We all know that plastics help improve the quality of life, and in many cases help extend and protect life," said Jon Ratzlaff, technical services manager for Chevron Phillips Chemical Co., who created the parts competition during his term as 2013-2014 SPE president. "Whether the nominated parts are for medical, packaging, construction, electrical/electronics, consumer, or industrial applications, the Plastics for Life global parts competition celebrates all the ways that polymeric materials make life better on this planet."

ANTEC Orlando 2015 will take place March 23-25, 2015 at Orlando's Orange County Convention Center and will be co-located with the NPE2015 plastics exposition, which is produced by SPI.

Nominations are due by Jan. 30, 2015 and can be made by contacting Barbara Spain bspain@4spe.org;or +1 508.338.2646. Additional information can be found at www.antec.ws.
