SPI Bioplastics Council sets 2010 objectives

Article-SPI Bioplastics Council sets 2010 objectives

With bioplastics predicted to grow 18% annually, from a current 570 million lb per year to 1.2 billion lb in 2012, SPI’s Bioplastics Council has set an agenda of ambitious goals for 2010.

The Council will continue building on its relationship with the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s BioPreferred Program, and work with other federal agencies involved in “bio” issues. It will also continue educational efforts to clarify bioplastics-related marketing claims.

The SPI group will also seek to partner with other bio organizations that share its objectives and will increase the visibility of the Council with added education programs at trade shows and conferences and the use of other media channels.

The chairperson of the SPI Bioplastics Council for 2010 is Frederic Scheer, founder, chairman, and CEO of biomaterials supplier Cereplast Inc. (Hawthorne, CA). The vice chair is Steve Davies, director of communications and public affairs for NatureWorks LLC, also a supplier of bioplastic materials. The Council’s members include Arkema, BASF Corporation, Cereplast, DuPont, NatureWorks, PolyOne, Teknor Apex, and Telles (a Metabolix/ADM Joint Venture). [email protected]
