A new reusable, tactile surface sensor can give molders a window into the pressure between mating mold halves. The Xsensor is a thin, flexible sheet covered with sensing points. These sensors can be placed only 1 mm apart. The points collect data up to 100 times/sec to create real-time reports. The sheet?s internal components are said to be very durable, offering thousands of uses before requiring replacement. Xsensor is said to be suitable for any application in which pressure is between .25 and 12,000 psi. The software for the system requires Windows95, 98, or 2000 platform with 16 MB of disk space and 64 MB of available RAM.
