Having big-name ocean environmentalists like the aforementioned along with Jo Ruxton (seen above), Cofounder, Plastic Oceans UK, supporting the use of advanced recycling as a way to address the ocean plastics problem is a major marketing win for the promising new recycling technology and for Mura Technology.

“While our plastics affect the entire planet,” says Sir David Attenborough, “it’s our oceans that bear the full brunt of plastic pollution. This is a disaster.”

The solution is to prevent plastic debris from entering the ocean in the first place. “The good news is that this can be accomplished with improved waste management systems and new improved technology,” Attenborough points out.

The former can create jobs in impoverished areas and the latter taps Mura Technology’s proprietary Catalytic Hydrothermal Reactor (CAT-HTR) process, which uses supercritical steam to convert plastics back into the chemicals and oils from which they were made. Cat-HTR can recycle all waste plastics, including those considered unrecyclable that are currently incinerated or sent to landfill, such as multilayer, flexible plastic films, pots, tubs and trays.
