According to Y2K Fluid Power, more than 85 percent of all hydraulic breakdowns are caused by oil contamination. Much of that contamination happens when transferring oil from a drum into a machine?s hydraulic reservoir. The Y2K2000 oil transfer cart is designed to reduce such contamination. The cart includes everything needed to transfer the oil while simultaneously filtering it. Though the cart looks like a normal dolly, it also contains a 1-hp single-phase motor, a 5-gal/min pump, and two hydraulic filters.
When combining the cart with the manufacturer?s breather kits with quick disconnects?one that connects to the oil reservoir and one that connects to the drum?molders can reportedly achieve a purer transfer than when using hoses or hose wands that must be inserted into the oil to operate. Everything is sealed within the Y2K2000, and thus contaminated air and particulates from the drum are kept out of the oil. As the oil level changes, air must enter the reservoir and drum through the adapters. That air is filtered to 3 µm absolute. A water filter is also available to remove moisture or humidity. According to the manufacturer, a typical system with a 10-µm nominal filter traps only 16,500 of 50,000 particles 10 µm and larger. The 3-µm filter on the Y2K2000 reportedly removes more than 49,000 of 50,000 particles 3 µm and larger. The Y2K2000 ranges in price from about $1650 to $2000.
