System offers real-time monitoring of modified atmosphere package processing

Ensuring consistent perforation of modified atmosphere packaging presents unique challenges because of the dimensions of the holes and the speed at which the film is processed. The holes typically measure less than 120 microns and the film advances at 100 to 400 meters per minute. Rofin (Starnberg, Germany) claims that it is the first system supplier to offer real-time monitoring of hole diameters and roundness with its VisionPerfoControl technology.

The optimized packaging increases shelf life by as much as one week, according to Rofin.
