Tek Pak Inc., specializing in the thermoforming of specialty protective "carrier" trays for the electronics components, healthcare and consumer industries, now produces aluminum thermoform molds for packaging OEMs. According to Tracy Wolf, director of sales and business development for Tek Pak, the company's expansion of business into thermoform mold building is an outgrowth of its expertise in building both custom and proprietary thermoform tooling for carrier trays.

Tek Pak designs trays to customer specifications using Solidworks and Pro/E CAD software, and can have production-quality sample trays within three days after design approval with Tek Pak's "Trays in Days" program. The company thermoforms trays from a variety of materials including PVC, PETG, PET, HIPS, and can also provide ESD-rated materials, both topical and intrinsic. Tek Pak can also provide a short-to-medium production run at its facility with no additional tooling charge.
Tek Pak's new high-speed Mikron HSM 800-4200 rpm CNC machining center makes it possible for the company to produce the highest quality mold cavities, including high-volume, multi-cavity production molds. The Mikron HSM 800-4200 offers precision accuracy (+/- 0.0005") and excellent surface finish that doesn't require polishing, virtually eliminating post-machining bench work.
"We'll work with customers to develop their projects and do prototypes and short production runs," Wolf said, "which is something that larger thermoforming companies don't want to be involved with."
