The Best and Brightest in Thermoforming

The winners of this year’s SPE Thermoforming Competition displayed ingenuity, agility, and a knack for finding better, cheaper alternatives to metal parts.

The pandemic had an unexpected effect on this year’s thermoforming parts competition organized by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Thermoforming Division. “The number of entries [in the biennial event] doubled from our last competition in 2019,” said Competition Chair Travis Kieffer. There was nothing surprising about the quality of the parts entered, however, which were “top notch,” in Kieffer’s estimation. You can be the judge, as you scroll through a presentation of this year’s gold winners.

The awards were officially handed out at the SPE Thermoforming Division’s conference in Grand Rapids, MI, on Sept. 20 to 22, in several categories, including vacuum forming, pressure forming, and production parts from 3D-printed tooling, a category that was introduced this year.

We begin with the winner of the People’s Choice award.
