A new family of injection mold bases with interchangeable plates has been introduced by PCS Co. These plates, available from stock, are designed to enhance a molder?s ability to change mold plates without worrying about fit.

Called the Interchangeable Plate System, it allows molders to order plates in a variety of types and sizes off the shelf that can be delivered within 24 hours in most cases. The interchangeable plate sizes range from 7/8 to 4 7/8 inches. Base sizes range from 7 7/8 by 7 7/8 inches to 19 1/2 by 23 3/4 inches. Tolerances of the plates are held to +/-.0004 inch.

Using these new bases, says PCS, mold production and design cycles can be reduced because the bases are already machined for ejector pins, return slots, vented leader pins, and hoist ring holes. To further decrease mold production cycle time, PCS can machine a base for which the molder then supplies the mold insert or a blueprint. Also, instead of buying a base for every mold, a molder can use one or two interchangeable base plates.
