Treofan plans sale of Belgian BOPP facility

Officials at Treofan (Raunheim, Germany) say the company already is in advanced talks with potential purchasers of the Belgian site, where about 100 are employed. "Our strategy is to focus on a smaller range of specialty BOPP films, especially in the areas of tobacco, electronics and IML labels," explained Carlo Ranucci, CEO of the Treofan Group, in a statement. "With Treofan Benelux SA mainly producing other types of films, the sale is a logical step." Treofan early this year sold its site in Lamezia, Italy, where cast PP film was extruded. In Oct. 2009 the management of Treofan South Africa acquired that business.

The Group includes five production sites, processing about 200,000 tons of film annually at currently four sites in Europe and one in Mexico. The sale of the plant in Liège will bring the total to four production sites.

According to the Group, the sale of the Liège facility will include an agreement whereby the Liège site would produce up to 20,000 tons of BOPP films for Treofan per year. Treofan would also cede some distribution rights for Treofan's products to the new Belgian entity. —[email protected]
