Two-component all-electric machine

NP_Ferromat_Elektra155_2F.gifFerromatik Milacron has expanded its Elektra Evolution Series to include a line of two-component models in clamp forces from 30 to 300 metric tons. At this time available only in Europe, the Evolution line was introduced less than two years ago with the aim of creating a lower price point for all-electric molding machines. Ferromatik says it has done this, and that adding the two-component models is in response to the growing demand for multicolor and multimaterial products coming from end-user markets.

Two-component applications also want the benefits of the electric machine?s performance dynamics, precision, and low energy consumption. At the Fakuma trade fair in Germany, Ferromatik demonstrated a 155-ton version of the two-component Elektra Evolution by molding an appliance component using two materials and inmold assembly to produce a tubular receptacle housing with a freely turning spindle incorporated. The respective injection weights were 38g and 3g.

The primary injection unit is in the traditional horizontal position and the second unit is mounted vertically. Ferromatik says the overall height is still low enough to allow comfortable installation in most production shops, and the footprint is very compact.

In addition, the second vertical injection unit is available from Ferromatik as a kit that can be used to convert an existing standard one-component machine. The modular design of the Elektra machines is said to make the conversion fast and simple.

However, the all-electric injection unit can also be fitted to the company?s larger Maxima machines and its hydraulic K-Tec machines about as simply. The vertical design has been made as low as possible to accommodate restricted ceiling heights.
