Available with a factory-installed dual-axis trunnion table that provides full five-axis capabilities for machining complex multisided parts in a single setup to reduce setup time and increase part accuracy, the new compact VF-2TR vertical machining center (VMC) from Haas Automation Inc. (Oxnard, CA) sells for just $99,995 with standard options.

Versatile VMC

With 30-by-16-by-20-inch travels, a 40-taper spindle, and a 20-hp vector dual-drive system, the VF-2TR features Haas’s TR160 dual-axis trunnion table mounted to a standard T-slot table to provide five-axis simultaneous motion, or to position a workpiece at nearly any angle for machining.

The trunnion provides ±120° of tilt on the A axis and a full 360° of continuous rotation on the B. It accommodates parts with a swing up to 17.5 inches and weighing up to 80 lb, including the part and fixture. The trunnion’s 160-mm platter features six precision T-slots equally spaced at 60° for easy fixturing.

Moreover, the TR160 can easily be removed from the VF-2TR when only three-axis machining is required—the machine’s standard 36-by-14-inch T-slot table provides plenty of room for fixtures and vises. And precision mounting keys reportedly make reinstalling and aligning the trunnion a breeze.

Standard features include a 24-pocket side-mount tool changer, an automatic chip auger, a programmable coolant nozzle, a Visual Quick Code programming system, a 15-inch color LCD monitor with a USB port, 16 MB of program memory, a remote jog handle, spindle orientation, coordinate rotation and scaling, user-definable macros, and—just one more—high-speed machining control software with full look-ahead.

High-productivity options like high-speed spindles, through-spindle coolant, linear scales, high-speed rapids, and a wireless intuitive probing system also are available.
