Wacker launches high-tack silicone adhesive for medical applications

Chemicals group Wacker (Munich) presented a new high-tack silicone adhesive gel developed for medical applications at this week's 25th Conference of the European Wound Management Association (EWMA) in London. Silpuran 2117 is suited for skin-friendly adhesive applications that are found in advanced wound care. Dressings using the high-purity silicone adhesive gel remain reliable and durable, yet stay soft and flexible, thus enabling atraumatic dressing changes.

The product is formulated to provide enhanced tack in direct-skin applications and in cases where hypo-allergenic skin adhesion is crucial. The breathable material protects the wound site from bacteria and is waterproof. It can be removed without causing damage or pain to the surrounding skin area.

Chemically inert and heat resistant, Silpuran 2117 remains flexible at temperatures ranging from -50° to 200°C. The two-part, biocompatible adhesive is free from organic plasticizers and stabilizers and has passed ISO 10993 and USP Class VI certification.

As with all Silpuran grades, Silpuran 2117 is manufactured, filled and packaged in compliance with Wacker's in-house standards for medical raw materials in an ISO Class 8 cleanroom.
