Weener Plastic Packaging Group (WPPG; Weener, Germany) is strengthening its Brazilian operations by acquiring the shares of its joint venture, Weener Globalpack Indústria Plástica Ltda., in Jaraguá. The company has been renamed and will operate as Weener Indústria Plástica Ltda from here on out. The plant produces plastic packaging components for deodorants and antiperspirants. The transaction has been closed in July 2015.

In addition, Weener has taken over the injection and extrusion molding business at Globalpack’s Jaraguá plant. For this operation, a new company has been formed: Weener Brasil Indústria e Comércio de Embalagens Plásticas Ltda. The shares have been transferred in August 2015. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

WPPG’s global expansion strategy aims to support global and local customers with world-class operations, excellent engineering programs and innovative product development.

The production facility, located in Jaraguá, one of São Paulo’s 96 districts, has more than 400 employees. In a statement, WPPG said it “sees significant growth potential for its innovative products in the Brazilian market and the factory will play a central role in the company’s growth strategy.”

Mr. Arnaldo Conte has been appointed as Managing Director of the two companies. “WPPG has created a unique strategic opportunity by bringing its expertise and innovation leadership to the rapidly growing Brazilian market,” Conte said. “We can focus on existing and new Brazilian customers whilst strengthening our offerings to deliver even greater value.”

WPPG is a market-leading global plastic packaging company with 24 operations in 16 countries worldwide.
